Workshop description:

This 2-hour-long workshop will introduce participants to 2 smartphone apps and a simple workflow for creating 2D animation.

Garrett Moore will demonstrate materials and techniques for cut-out and hand-drawn animation.

Most of the session time will be dedicated to the hands-on practice of animating. Each participant will utilize their phones along with their material & technique of choice to make a short, animated loop.

The workshop will conclude with a showcase of willing participants’ work created during this session.


Outcomes:

Participants will gain knowledge of the tools Photo Editor and FlipaClip, and understand how to use them to produce animation.

By the end of the session, each participant will have produced a 4-second-long GIF (animated loop).

Participants will have the opportunity to connect with others interested in creating animation.

Required Materials: 

Please bring a sketchbook, a writing utensil, and a smartphone with the following apps installed:

1. Photo Editor (any version)

2. FlipaClip: Cartoon Animation Creator & Art Studio (available on Google Play or the App Store)


Max # of students: 8 (not including chaperones)

Skill Level: All ages and skill levels are welcome; no prior animation experience is necessary.
